I've posted a couple of reviews recently of some terrific ongoing series.

Making deals with the devil means that some day you have to pay up. When that day comes you can expect a Ferryman at your door. And they don't have a problem dragging you, kicking and screaming. A delicious guilty pleasure.

Review: Ferryman #4 (DC/Wildstorm)

Not many comics examine the violence and tragedy in Uganda in 2002. But Unknown Soldier has been unflinching in its portrayal of the genocide and child slavery in the region. Stark. Depressing. Enlightening. Politically volatile. Unknown Soldier is must read stuff.

Review: Unknown Soldier #3 (Vertigo)

Just posted a review of Sir Apropos of Nothing #3 by Peter David.

Not as funny as the previous two issues. More morose than chuckle-tastic. It's a shame, because the series had been a pleasant surprise. Hopefully things will pick back up again in the next issue. And we get back to the funny.

Still interesting since it pokes fun of fantasy cliches. A few Harry Potter zingers in this issue.

Marvel's The Stand Captain Trips has been an amazing ride so far. It's an amazing adaptation of Stephen King's classic novel.

The fourth issue dropped recently and I have a review up. Much apocalyptic goodness here!

Vampires trying to act normal. It's not as easy as it looks. The temptation just kills you.

David Lapham explores the domesticated side of vampires in the second issue of 30 Days of Night: 30 Days 'Til Death. And throws in a little hillbilly suckage, because one can never have enough hillbilly suckage.

Comic Break: 30 Days of Night 30 Days 'Til Death (IDW Publishing)

Lapham gets bonus points for having a main character named Rufus. It's such an under appreciated name.

Been slacking on the posting here. So this is going to be the comic review equivalent of an infodump.

Comic Break: Locke & Key Head Games #1 (IDW Publishing) Ummm.....frosty Joe Hill goodness.

Comic Break: The Cleaners #2 (Dark Horse Comics) Can't get enough about the wild and exciting occupation of trauma cleaning.

Comic Break: Mysterius the Unfathomable #1 (DC/Wildstorm) An incredibly pleasant surprise!

Comic Break: Dark Delicacies #1 (IDW Publishing) Love the horror bookstore in Burbank, California of the same name. Wasn't as fond of the comic.

Comic Break: Ferryman #5 (DC/Wildstorm) My guilty pleasure comic. When I just want an all-hell-breaks-loose type of battle.

Comic Break: Unknown Soldier #4 (Vertigo) For my money, one of the best ongoing series currently.

Comic Break: Scourge of Gods #1 (Marvel) An interesting SF comic.

Comic Break: Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eight #23 (Dark Horse Comics)

Comic Break: The Stand Captain Trips #5 (Marvel) Great final issue of a tremendous series.

Comic Break: Ender's Shadow Battle School #2 (Marvel) Another wonderful Marvel adaptation. Mike Carey rocks!
