this is for paul or anyone else who may or may not have read the Night Watch series by Sergei Lukuanenko:

I love this series and the 4th and final book called "Last Watch" comes out at the end of the month.

I was wondering if you had read, or plan on reading and writing a review for the books of this series, it is a great fantasy series mostly taking place in modern day russia, lots of magic, vampires, werewolves, shape shifters, action, crime noir stuff, I recommend it for you because i know you like authors like Charlie Huston, Mike Carey, and Jim Butcher.

I would love to see you write a review on this series mostly to see your thoughts on it, and to see if you like it as much as me.

and as always I look forward to your reviews and recommendations on what i should be reading next. In fact after reading your review for warren hammond's ex-kop I am going to pick up Kop pretty soon, it looks right up my alley almost reminds me of Altered Carbon by Richard K. Morgan.

runaroundace,

Glad you finally made it here! Very Happy

I've been meaning to read the Night Watch series by Sergei Lukyanenko, but I've never gotten to it. I will have to remedy this based on your recommendation. Now I'm eager to read it!

It's strange that you mention Altered Carbon in reference to KOP. I thought the same thing when I was reading Hammond's book, and almost mentioned it in the review. But I decided against it. Altered Carbon is brilliant with the way it deals with consciousness. KOP is a fun noir read, but doesn't have that level of depth. Both are gritty and dark noir novels, but that is where the similarities end.

Oh cool, well since you are interested I guess I should describe Night Watch a little better then, because from what i wrote i guess it kinda sounds like dresden files, and it isn't really like that.

In Night Watch living amongst the every day people are people called Others. Others are born human, and don't decide if or when they become an other, but instead something happens to them and then all of a sudden they change from human to other. Once you become an other its up to you if you want to become a light other or a dark other. The agents of the light others are called the Night Watch, and they watch over the dark others to make sure they don't get into too much trouble like taking inoccent human lives and breaking the truce that the 2 groups of others have in place.

The first book of the series follows a mid-level agent of the Night Watch named Anton and it follows him and his adventures, while trying to save the world from the dark others.

I love the series and can't wait to read the 4th and final book. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do, and I look forward to seeing you review it. Smile

Awesome, I hope you like it as much as me. I got the 4th and final book, but I'm waiting to read it....I think mostly because once I'm done with it that means there will be no more.

Posted a review of Night Watch on BOTM.

I enjoyed it, greatly. Definitely a different type of urban fantasy.
