Just finished reading this one, and will have a full review up on the site soon, but I must say that I was totally blown away by Peter Brett's debut.

Best debut since Patrick Rothfuss' The Name of the Wind! Already looks like a strong contender for the 2009 best-of lists! Very Happy

The paperback of The Painted Man aka The Warded Man will be available at Amazon.de in April 2009. So I sent a pre-order.

Due to your post it must be a great read. I look forward to your review.

Do you know the reason why the renamed the book?

I loved this one too! Haven't reviewed it yet, publisher asked that I wait until a couple of weeks before release. But I feel safe just saying it was impressive.

For those book collectors that love signed books, Southern California's best speculative fiction bookstore and my favorite haunt Mysterious Galaxy will be sending some copies of The Warded Man to Peter to be signed and then selling them in store and through their website.

Mysterious Galaxy is nirvana for SFF fans.

As for the name change of the book, for anyone who has read the European version The Painted Man, is Arlen referred to as the Painted Man or the Warded Man in the novel?

Can't wait for The Desert Spear. May have to import the UK version to get it earlier.

I thought it was great.

Me and Peter had a bit of a discussion on if it fell into the YA category.

It wasn't written that way. It's an original concept as well - will be interesting to see what happens with the Spear...

Hey Paul, that was the best review of Peat's book I've ever seen (even better than mine ;-) ), I really enjoyed it, and even wanted to re-read the book afterwards! You reviews are great, all the time! :-)

Dave,

I'm glad you enjoyed the review. Hopefully it will help Peter sell more books.

The funny thing is that writing the review made me want to re-read the book again.
