I think I'm interested a niche within a niche when it comes to Urban Fantasy - mostly mine has detectives in it. So I'm really excited by Harry Dresden by Jim Butcher, Felix Castor by Mike Carey and Joe Pitt by Charlie Huston. Then I've also liked China Melville's Un Lun Dun which is a great twist on London and the evil of Smog!

So far I read only the first Harry Dresden novel Stormfront but this one hit my taste. Therefore I will and read more Dresden novels within 2009. I also read Un Lun Dun and to be honest I fell in love with this lovely pet which was a milk carton!!! This book is bubbling over with ideas and imagination.

I've made it to book six Blood Rites (look for a review this weekend) and I've got the goal of reading the rest of them before the release of Turn Coat in April. Oh and the milk is cute and quite disturbing. I'm not sure I'd be able to give a stroke...

I really like to read reviews. Since the start of this forum I got in trouble. I found new blogs and added them to my google reader which is now exploding. 162 unread items. I need a nightshift Anyway it is amazing to write posts and twitter at the same time.

Enjoyed Butcher and Huston's first in their series and mean to read more. I still haven't read any Felix Castor novels yet, but they're on my list after all the favourable reviews. If you like Butcher you might like Simon R Green's 'Nightside' series. Nightside has had mixed reviews (and I may be biased as I'll always try an alternative London book as London has been my stomping ground in my younger days.) John Taylor is a private detective in 'real' London, who finds missing objects or people that usually take him to underside/nightside London. It isn't Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere or Mieville's UnLunDun ... but I enjoyed the ride

Hah! I guess everybody loves Curdle His long absences bothered me, though (has anyone else noticed that Curdle was just ... gone in some places, as if it slipped out of Mieville's mind when he was writing that part, and then reappeared?). Otherwise, there was one book I really liked, even though I usually don't really enjoy urban fantasy: Storm Born by Richelle Mead. I guess I should start reading the Dresden series, seeing how you all praise it here

Trin — I've been lent Storm Born after I was told Patricia Briggs recommended it. Like the idea of Shaman versus Demon, or rather a female badass Shaman who handles a Glock as smoothly as a wand. It's a loaner book so I have to read it soon. Must be good if you don't usually enjoy Urban Fantasy. runaroundace — I've also got the first two Night Watch books. I've been so saturated in vampire books at the end of 08 that I'm trying to avoid them for a while. I also attempted to watch the film adaptation and switched over after half an hour - just didn't like it - too weird and confusing. However, that'll be no reflection on the books.

The Dresden Files are brilliant, you should try Kat Richardson's Greywalker novels and Rob Thurmans books.
