Richelle Mead's Vampire High series is brilliant, Clive Barker's Abarat series is two books in and is excellent. Also, Kelley Armstrong has just started a YA series too which is well worth reading, it is set in the same world as her Otherworld series.

The Vampire Academy books were really good. There were no complains in our reading circle. Mead really describes her vampire world really well; consisting or royal vampires the Moroi (whose magics are explained really well), Dhampirs the Moroi guardians and rogue vampire killers, and on a small scale the role of humans by differing perspectives. Nothing is black and white either, so you can't fully predict the future for the characters either.

I'm looking forward to book 4
